The American International School (AIS) is a fully accredited, independent, co-educational international school in Hong Kong. Serving families from Hong Kong’s local and international communities since 1986, it delivers a rigorous American standards-based educational program for students from Early Childhood to Grade 12. Its mission is to provide a comprehensive and challenging academic program that develops life-long learners and prepares students to meet the responsibilities and expectations of global citizenship. Its signature red-bricked campus located along Waterloo Road in Kowloon Tong is home to approximately 800 students of over 30 nationalities.

Recognized for its positive, student-centered approach to teaching and learning and its timeless Core Values of Justice, Knowledge, and Love, students learn to become well-rounded individuals, empowered thinkers, effective communicators, and global citizens. The academic program at AIS is enriched by a broad and diverse extracurricular program, vibrant visual and performing arts, an extensive sports program at both intra-mural and varsity levels, unique experiential learning opportunities, challenging leadership programs, dedicated community service, and a schoolwide commitment to supporting student success.

AIS students use Apple devices as their core creativity and learning tools in all grades. From EC1 to Grade 2, students use school sets of iPads. Family-owned iPads are leveraged in Grades 3 to 8, and family-owned laptops are the key learning tools in Grades 9 to 12. All AIS teachers are provided with iPads as well as Apple laptops, and they embed these devices into their daily instruction and lesson design. AIS continues to foster creativity and innovation and is pursuing its designation as an Apple Distinguished School.

The holistic educational program at AIS and the school's warm family feel continues to attract families to this well-established learning environment. US standardized tests (MAP) are taken by all Grades 3 to 11 students, and formal examinations begin in Grade 8. Advanced Placement (AP) examinations are held in May, and AIS is an approved AP and SAT Testing Centre.

AIS is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), is a long-standing member of the East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS), and is a member of the U.S. National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). AIS has a long standing record of student admissions to the most prestigious universities and colleges in the United States and internationally.
